Sabio Fellow Achiamar Lee-Rivera is headed to Industry Explorers program

Achiamar Lee-Rivera came to Sabio after working as a photographer and social media strategist. Working in social media inspired her to want to do something beyond simply using technology -- she wanted to be involved in creating it.

After hearing an interview on NPR that featured Sabio co-founder Gregorio Rojas, Achiamar looked up Sabio on the internet and attended one of the open house meetings. After that meeting, she decided that she was going to learn to code with Sabio. She graduated with Sabio cohort five and has been working as a professional web developer for the past seven months.

Now Achiamar is headed to the Industry Explorers program in Redmond, Washington. Industry Explorers is a Microsoft sponsored program that provides people with real world development experience and classroom learning. The four month program offers compensation and provides an opportunity for people from underrepresented groups in technology to advance themselves.

"A year ago, I never imagined that I would be doing this," Achiamar said. "The fact that I studied Microsoft development with Sabio, and now I'm headed to the mothership [Redmond, Washington] is amazing."

Congrats Achiamar!
