A few weeks ago, Art Gallardo, a senior corporate recruiter for iHerb, visited Sabio fellows in Newport Beach to network and share his expertise about how to prepare to for tech jobs and interviews.

When asked about what the industry trend is for people who attend coding bootcamps like Sabio, Art said, "There's a lot of flexibility with people coming out of coding school. People are wanting flexibility in terms of developing their skills, and coding bootcamp graduates are able to adapt because many of them have been trained in the latest technologies."

Gallardo said that in a past developers would identify strongly with the programming language that they initially learned, whereas now newer developers coming out of bootcamp are flexible eager to get as much experience on a variety of projects.

Recruiting talent from bootcamps like Sabio is appealing to Gallardo because hiring local candidates saves money and allows companies to engage face to face prospective employees. Gallardo said that technical teams have an easier time determining if someone is a good fit in person vs. a phone or a Skype interview.

Gallardo said that he readily looks for junior developers coming out of bootcamp. He offered a tip to the Sabio fellows saying, "A lot of candidates will say, 'I'm a fast learner,' but this is such a common answer that it doesn't tell me or a hiring manager anything. You want to focus your answers on your knowledge and experience in relation to that job description. Focus on what you know and what they are looking for."
