Sabio is Committed to Supporting Women in Tech

It is an unfortunate and well-known fact that women are under-represented in the tech workforce, with fewer than 25% of engineering teams being women.

Sabio was created to increase the number of women and people of color that participated in the innovation economy. Even after our five years of operations; however, we have to develop innovative programs and funding sources for women to ensure that each of our training sessions is at least 50% women. To accomplish this goal, we are looking to partner with corporate sponsors that are also looking to interview and hire women engineers to fund a Women in Tech Software Engineering Scholarship.

Women In Tech

We are all too familiar with the fact that women do not enter tech majors in college, and instead tend to major in social sciences. A lesser-known fact is that a gender pay gap also exists. Because of the lower wages that women are paid after graduating from college, they have fewer savings that can be used to train for tech jobs. This poses an additional financial burden on women that might want to participate in a coding bootcamp, since they may have fewer financial resources to pull from to pay for tuition, a laptop, and or living expenses for the duration of the coding program.

It is Sabio’s conclusion, after working with over 100 women over the past five years that all the negative press around women in tech and the gender pay-gap further depresses the number of women that enter the software engineering profession.

To address these issues Sabio will establish a robust Women in Tech Scholarship Fund that will provide financial resources for women that want to participate in our coding program. The women that apply will need to demonstrate a financial need for tuition assistance, laptop assistance, or living expenses.

Over the past 18 months, Sabio has given away over $50,000 in scholarships to women taking the leap into our coding Bootcamp.

In 2018 alone, Sabio gave out over $100,000 in scholarships in 2018 for women and those that are unemployed & underemployed.

Since 2011, the number of female graduates from Coding Bootcamps have grown to a moving 40%. This number which continues to grow every year is in stark contrast with Computer Science which remains at 18%.

Sabio is thrilled to be part of this trend, offering a dynamic, informative and diverse boot camp experience for both men and women alike.

Our bootcamp is taught by passionate Senior instructors who’ve helped grow the same companies that drive technology today. These instructors provide a completely different classroom experience — highly personalized, connected to the real world, and committed to you as an individual. At Sabio our immersive coding bootcamp won’t just give you the skills you need, but will equip you with the experience, problem-solving mindset and confidence necessary to succeed as an engineer. We have an 84% job placement rate for both men and women, and an extremely encouraging and tight-knit community always ready with career help and guidance.

Additionally, for women interested in getting their feet wet in coding and programming, Sabio offers a once a week free Women Code meetup at our Culver City location. With the help of our alumni, we have also raffled off laptops for the Women Code Meetups. Here women of all ages can come learn to code in a safe and supportive environment. Taught by renowned female industry experts, we provide all the tools needed to start their tech journey, including (but not limited to,) Javascript, HTML/CSS and Github, all while getting to know other like minded women.
