I am always amazed by the courage and dedication of our Sabio Fellows display throughout their transformational journey into the tech industry.

Take Jared Cook for example.

This young man enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in September 2013 and served our country with pride and distinction as a Reconnaissance Marine for five years. Once he completed his military career, he wasted zero time, and the month after he completed his service as a Marine, he began our part-time JavaScript class at our Irvine campus. In December of 2018, two months after he had left the military, he was enrolled in our Irvine Full Stack Web Development program, and attended classes Monday — Saturday from 9am — 6pm for 13 weeks.

During his time at Sabio, he helped create pivotal features for Team Prospect, the Patreon/Twitch for Athlete Creators, an online subscription content service for athletes seeking funding from their fans. Since Sabio runs a project-based curriculum, Jared was able to create features that drove the product development of this dynamic online platform. The co-founder and CEO of Team Prospect, Richie Galinato, worked with Jared closely to design and develop a number of features used by the site’s administrator.

The final weeks at Sabio are 75% focused on the job hunt. And like a pro, Jared sent out resumes and attended interviews. One of those interviews was arranged by his product lead, Richie, and weeks after Jared graduated in early April 2019, he began his career in tech as a professional as an Associate Application Developer at Exsilio Solutions. A number of other Sabio Fellows have worked at Exsilio throughout the years, and we are so happy to hear that they once again came to Sabio to full-fill their tech staffing needs.

It took Jared 6 months to drastically transform his life from a Reconnaissance Marine into an Associate Application Developer. Thanks to his drive, dedication, teamwork, and the benefits provided by the Veteran Administration, in the form of the G.I. Bill (a registered trademark of the USVA), Jared was able to book a seat on an awesome career rocketship:
